Albi Institute influences the creative industries in Israel through pipeline programs that shift the context of creative production in Israel. With the realities of Israeli audiences and politics in mind, these programs seek to expand the space for critical voices in cultural production across fields and industries to thrive and be true vehicles for change.

Empowering Palestinian Creatives

The pipeline will meet promising Palestinian creatives in Israel before they have even begun their careers and will pave paths all the way to prominent positions of influence and major public platforms. These programs will help develop popstars, producers, and everything in between, increasing representation across the entertainment industry, the arts more broadly, and the public cultural sphere. While we are scouting for high school programs to begin investing in or developing, our pipeline currently truly starts after high school, bringing Palestinians through the doors of leading film schools.

Sam Spiegel Pre-College Preparatory Program

The Sam Spiegel study programs and vocational training:
Founded in 1989, the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School Jerusalem has been at the forefront of groundbreaking screen storytelling and was named one of the 15 best film & television schools outside the US for seven consecutive years. Since 2022, the school has operated annual study programs in Arabic for aspiring screenwriters and creatives in Jerusalem, Haifa and Nazareth. It also offers an annual pre-college program for Palestinians of East Jerusalem and Arabic-speaking students who later enrol in the school's 4-year director's program. The program provides scholarships, language courses, theoretical and vocational courses by leading Palestinian filmmakers and cultural visits to leading museums. In 2025, the school will offer an additional 2-year study program in editing and post-production for Arabic-speaking students.

Beit Berl Film School - Piloting Palestinian Student Stipends

The film school at Beit Berl College boasts one of the highest percentages of Palestinian students among film schools in Israel. This is partly due to its location in the "Triangle" region and the teaching certificate that accompanies arts degrees, offering graduates the opportunity for both a salaried job and an artist career.
Albi will provide production stipends to selected Palestinian film students to enhance the quality of their final student projects, giving them a better chance to compete in national student film festivals and jump-start their careers. This program will serve as a pilot for film programs across the country.

Incubators for Palestinian Film and Television Creatives

This program is in partnership with Ra’ and New Fund for Film and Television.
Currently, there are no concentrated efforts to support Palestinian filmmakers in Israel. Over the years the NFCT has invested resources in trying to identify promising talents amongst Israel’s Palestinian society, but have been able to support very few, due to language barriers and general lack of trust. In light of a substantially smaller number of active Arab-Palestinian filmmakers within the Israeli film industry, the NFCT committed to using its extensive experience to nurture and empower filmmakers from Palestinian society in Israel through two complementary programs: first, Ra'-the Filmmakers' Forum, based in Taibeh; and second, an annual call for applications from Palestinian filmmakers across Israel. Through this call, we will provide financial and professional support to short/long films in any genre (the length and genre, and amount of projects supported depend on funds secured for the program).
